Fishers Island
Perc-Rite® Drip Dispersal installation Fishers Island Yacht Club, Fishers Island, NY October 2016
Oakson participated in our first New York project late fall 2016. Fishers Island is nestled between New London, CT and Long Island and has some wastewater disposal problems you would imagine a small island to have. CME Associates, Inc. of Woodstock, CT was hired by the Fishers Island Yacht Club to upgrade their onsite wastewater disposal system. Their objective was to treat and dispose of the effluent while prioritizing the environmental sensitivity of the island.
The engineering firm learned of Perc-Rite® Drip Dispersal through its debut in the CTDPH Technical Standards in early 2015 and felt it was the most appropriate solution for this project. They still needed to deal with the effluent quality before disposal and decided upon a recirculating vertical flow constructed wetland. What made the project a huge success was the ability of the Perc-Rite® system to provide final disposal, but it also served as the effluent dispersal mechanism over the constructed wetland.
The solution utilized a 2 zone hydraulic unit with one drip dispersal zone for the disposal field and the other for dosing the wetland treatment system. The custom control panel and duplex pump system supplied by Oakson controlled the amount of flow sent to each area. Drip dispersal tubing was plowed into the existing lawn for the final disposal field, while the tubing for the recirculating wetland was laid over the washed stone in a symmetrical pattern. The result was a system that blended inconspicuously into the yacht club's landscape while meeting the environmental concerns of this waterfront location.
